My Kind of Sports

i am not the sporty kind of guy i guess but i still do engaged in sports activities.in swimming, i can sink but never swim and to think that our house is just a stone throw away from the beach.my ninong (godfather) went freakazoid when he learned that i was a badminton varsity member when he was “training” me to become a tennis player just like him by providing me with the right racket, balls and even shoes. His younger brother taught me how to play basketball.i can do free throws perfectly but i can’t run.asthma might take my breath away.

but still, i have my own little sports life that i can boast.

1. i am a badminton player. although not that good nowadays specially now that i am getting older.

2. i play bowling.

3. i do this – paintball war

4. i also do this-rappelling. also known as abseiling in British English meaning to rope down

5. and this-wall climbing

and all along i thought i had a lame sports life.just look at my pictures.

Why did Jorge Solis gave up the fight as early as the 7th Round?

Theory number 01:

Remember the movie 300? The Spartans were happy that they were given an honorable death by fighting for their country side-by-side with their King.

This could be a possible reason why Solis gave up the fight. Perhaps he was looking for a graceful exit from the boxing industry and the only way for him to have an honorable exit was to fight with the champion. It was his first loss in the history of this career. This event offered him a graceful exit. What could be better that be defeated by the world’s champion right?

After the 7th Round

What’s with the number 7? There must be something magical about this number. As Chris Martinez puts it, we have “7 last words, 7 virtues, 7 deadly sins, 7 dwarfs, 7th heaven, etc.” What’s with this number that made it so special today?

It all started with the singing of the national anthems. Geneva Cruz thought that the Philippine National Anthem was another one of those pop songs popularized by Regine Velasquez. The Mexican singer who sang their national anthem looked like she doesn’t know the importance of her role in the fight. And lastly, the singing of “Star Spangled Banner” was a total tragedy. I suggest she should wake up and give up her being an “International Recording Artist” role. Duh! Flat notes? Trying to reach those unreachable notes? Get a life. There is what we call “reality check”.

Then after the singing part, Jorge Solis and Manny Pacquiao entered the arena then round 1 of the fight started. During this round, Pacman was already on the go. Fast movements but at that rate, it was hard to tell whether all offensive attacks were good.

In other words, the first few rounds were boring until…

The sixth round was full of tension. Manny realized that it is time for him to take this fight seriously. He has to win this game. Or else its a long, painful downfall for him. First few punches then came down Solis. Then another round and Solis went down again. The referee counted then in an instant, Pacquiao won.

So even if it started with the wrong notes, it ended well for the Filipinos. It ended with more dollar signs and peso signs for Pacquiao. Who knows? Because of this game, he might make it to congress. After all, this is international publicity without spending much.

Kudos to Pacman!

ps. This was the first Pacman fight I watched here in Mindanao. Usually, I am in Manila everytime Pacman has a game.

Pacman VS Morales

November 19, 2006 -  a very interesting afternoon ladies and gentlemen. The pride of the Philippines, Manny “PACMAN” Pacquiao won during their last battle of the series.

It started at around 2:45 (i hope i am correct) when Sarah Geronimo sang the Philippine National Anthem followed by the national anthems of Mexico and USA and the whole drama that the media created for the past weeks ended after the third round of the fight when morales gestured that he dont want to fight anymore.

i watched the game to look at pacman’s shorts. i just want to know which product paid for the most expensive spot – his ass.

then it all ended.

commercial breaks are longer than the game itself. i wonder how disappointed those people who really went to SM to watch the show. But then again, perhaps they are not that disappointed. Afterall, this game is all about bets.

I guess the Philippines is the next gambling capital of the world.
